Powerful piece on what's being lost beyond just jobs. The detail about Chuck Culpepper's writing captures something important, the craft itself disappearing along with the infrastructure. Local news used to be an ecosystem where those morning calls with someone like Scott actually built institutional knowledge. Now everything's atomized and there's no replacement for that dailyexchange of judgment and context.
Thanks for this, Bill. I’m very sorry for your loss. I’m sad for our loss, too. The WaPo sports writers are legendary, as are many others in the newsroom. Democracy Dies in Darkness and journalism sheds the light.
It's truly sad about your friend and former coworker. May God be with them. But your comment about " a sad day for traditional journalism" in regard to The Washington Post was laughable. There was nothing traditional about Washington Post coverage that was always extremely left-leaning and operated as a political voice and arm of the far left Democratic Party. That's why they lost customers or at least one reason. If Only They had been traditional journalists things may have turned out differently.
I think I have an idea what biased newspapers and news coverage looks like. Did they lie about Biden's health for years? Did they lie about the safety of the covid vaccine? Did they cover up or refuse report the real truth of the Russia gate lie? Are you doing all day bye I understand your perspective. TDS is curable.

You have no idea what a biased newspaper looks like. Try the NY Post on for size. So many lies and so beholden to Trump! Makes one sick!
But what a great country we live in that we can have open discussion on topics for which we disagree. That's the wonderful part.
